Extension & Expansion of Homebuyer Tax Credit Awaits President Obama Approval

Good new for first-time home buyers!  Today, an expansion and extension of the Homebuyer Tax Credit passed both houses of the US Congress. The bill is now on its way to be signed by President Obama.

This extension of the first-time home buyer tax credit will now make the expiration date of the tax credit April 30, 2010.

First-time buyers who have not had interest in a principle residence for three years are still eligible.  One added benefit of these developments is an expansion of the tax credit to existing homeowners. Current homeowners, who have consecutively maintained the home they want to sell as their primary residence for five of the last eight years, are also eligible. However, the maximum amount for those homeowners is lower: $6,500 for married couples and $3,200 for those filing separately.

This is great news for the Dayton real estate market and the entire nation!

Columbus Ohio was named in US News & World Report's "Best Affordable Place to Retire"

The magazine U.S. News & World Report released its selection of Best Affordable Places to Retire in its October issue.

 

Most of the choices aren't conventional retirement havens. Emily Brandon, the business reporter who put the project together, says that the key factors in this year's choices were reasonable median home prices and an affordable cost of living. Beyond that, the locales were chosen because they have good resources for healthcare and recreational activities.

 

"Lots of these places are college towns with lots of things to do, including sports. Sports are big," Brandon says. Another consideration was availability of jobs and a low unemployment rate. "People we surveyed said they want and need to work," Brandon says. Here are the magazine's top choices listed alphabetically:
